Our Story

Lucy’s began as a wholesale-only muffin business in the summer of 2016. Kelsey had long dreamt of providing delicious and nutritious food to the community, and dove in with her first mission: to remind coffee-cart customers that muffins are not supposed to be cake.

One year and hundreds of muffins (and Breakfast Cookies) later, a pocket-sized and beloved gourmet foods shop went up for sale. And Kelsey, along with new-business-partner/dearest-of-friends, Megan, jumped on the opportunity. On August 1st, 2017, Lucy’s Market was born.

Lucy’s quickly outgrew the 350-square-foot space, and had the rare privilege of designing and moving into a brand new kitchen in May of 2019. During the expansion, Kelsey (the cheese lady/chef) and Megan (the business brain/cold-brew provider) were joined in ownership by another dear friend: Morgan the baker.

Bread

Bread

Our daily offerings include long-fermented traditional sourdough in a round loaf and a baguette, crusty yet pillowy french bread, and hearty sandwich bread featuring spent grain from our neighbors, Kenai River Brewery. We keep ourselves entertained with rotating monthly petite sourdoughs in fun flavors, and sourdough croissants every Tuesday and Friday. Morgan is always working up new recipes, mastering new techniques, and keeping Marlis (our sourdough starter) in a cooperative mood.

Cheese

Cheese

Our cheese counter stocks amazing finds from all around the world, including many cheeses from our neighbors in Washington and Oregon. We hope to always carry the title, “the cheese shop next to the book store.” We’ve chose to focus on artisanal cheeses, meaning cheeses that are produced by hand, according to traditional methods. Looking for something specific, or wondering what to pair with your latest favorite wine? Kelsey, our founder and cheesemonger, is here to talk (and taste) cheese for as long as you’d like.

Food & Retail

Food & Retail

Lucy’s features an ever-growing menu of fresh and nutritious food items prepared daily, and easy to grab even on a short lunch break. We pride ourselves in using the highest quality ingredients we can find. This means we buy organic whenever possible, and buy local whenever possible. We’re committed to the idea that food should not only taste good, but also be good. Granted, we’re never going to stop making the occasional batch of decadent mac & cheese.

The items on our shelves are inspired by trips to Europe, the frustration of not being able to find that special ingredient at the bigger grocery stores, and a commitment to showcase local products. We focus on items to pair with your cheese, as well as gourmet cooking ingredients. Are you responsible for cooking dinner tonight? Come in and browse for some inspiration. Looking for something you can’t find anywhere else in town? Let us know. We’ll order it in if we can.
